STARA FUŽINA

Stara Fužina is a typical Alpine village in the Triglav National Park, which offers many natural and cultural sites that you just have to see.

General offer

The village has two shops, ATM, hairdresser, bar, traditional inn with Czech barrel organ and restaurants. You can be accommodated in private rooms, apartments or holiday houses. If you are having troubles with your car, a mechanic is also available right in the centre of the village.

If winter weather conditions are appropriate, the village is a great starting site for cross-country skiing and adrenaline nigh sledging from Vogar. In other seasons you can enjoy in great walks to Mt Vogar and enjoy in the views offered from the hill of Vorančkovca. Stara Fužina has three entrance points to the cycling trail (Klodičeva kolesarska pot).

Cultural monuments

Since this village (formerly named Staro klad’vo or Althammer) is extremely old (from the pre-Roman period), it is also interesting to learn some facts to understand all the images that you can explore. You can visit Zois’ Mansion that dates back to the times of ironworks, as well as the remains of the old saw that stands on the foundations of the former iron foundry.
To explore the history of alpine dairy farming and cheese making, visit the Alpine Dairy Farming Museum. Together with Mihovc Inn, Andrejčeva žaga saw and mill, as well as the weighing machine Nutnica pri Joštu, which together form the centre of interesting sites in Stara Fužina.

It is also interesting to see the well preserved old houses, the exterior of the Hlipova hiša house decorated with baroque frescoes, and St Paul’s Church at the end of the village. The latter was dedicated to miners and furnace blasters, and was allegedly built in the 13th century.

Natural monuments

The village of Stara Fužina will mostly inspire visitors who enjoy in magnificent views. We recommend a walk to Rudnica, Peč, Studor or Vogar (the latter two are also popular sites for paragliders). The pastures of Fužina are mostly interesting for walks and fresh dairy products.

If you do not like steep ascends, you will be amazed by the Mostnica Gorge (Hudičev most – Devil’s Bridge) with the Voje valley, which ends at the Šum waterfall. Fishing fans can enjoy in fishing in the Mostnica, where only 5 fishermen per day are allowed during the fishing season. Sport climbers can enjoy in adrenaline boosts on the Peč natural climbing site or in outdoor fitness on Vorenčkojca.
