The village of Nemški rovt emerged from a former pasture and mining settlement. It is settled along the main village street, and even today we can see the division of the village in the big landowners’ and cottagers’ part (form and size of buildings).

What can we see in Nemški rovt?

In Ahčičeva hiša house, Jan Strgar, the famous beekeeper, was born, who then lived and worked in Bitnje (you can see the exterior part of the house with the memorial tablet). The beekeeping tradition is now continued at the Pri Nacku and Pri Kramarju houses.

Do not miss the old farm house called Kobalova kmečka hiša, where the facade is well kept with baroque frescoes that date back to 1777. Window frames are made of natural stone, used also on the bowed entrance with the year 1887 inscribed in the middle. You can only see the exterior part of the house.

If the weather conditions are right, you can even paddle in Nemški rovt. Torrential lake emerges at heavy rainfall not far from the village and along the road to Jelovica plateau. The basin fills with water that then forms a small lake (600 m long, 200 m wide and 10 m deep), which then completely dries out since it does not have any influxes.

The main part of the village is the Church of St Ahac, which was dedicated in 1492 when Columbus discovered America. Similarly to other churches in Bohinj, the church in Nemški rovt was also completely renovated in baroque style.

The road to Soriška planina Ski Centre passes Nemški rovt, and continues over the pass to the Bača Valley – Podbrdo.
